Why I am Running

The political and economic crises have left New York families without a voice. Some have lost their life savings or pensions, while others have considered relocating to where making a living and raising a family is not so hard.

The problems we face may seem insurmountable, but they are not. With real leadership, a commitment to justice, and the experience to tackle these challenges, we can rebuild the New York we deserve. That’s why I am running for Attorney General.

I know how to take on tough fights because I have done it throughout my career – locking up violent criminals, holding Wall Street firms accountable for fraud, and standing up to insurance companies to protect consumers.

I have done this work as a public official – first as a Manhattan District Attorney, then as Assistant Attorney General, and most recently as the head of the New York State Insurance Department. I have also enforced the rules within the private sector, making sure customers were fairly treated. My commitment to justice and belief in the law has guided my work and as Attorney General I will build on this record.

The Attorney General’s office is like a Swiss Army Knife for government – complete with different types of tools to fix a variety of problems. As the only candidate to have worked in the Attorney General’s office, I know how to put those tools to work for New Yorkers.

I will take on the corruption in Albany, stop financial abuses on Wall Street, and stand up to powerful interests, like health insurance companies. I will defend civil rights, protect our children from harm, and prosecute those who take advantage of our parents, grandparents, and neighbors. I will hold big polluters accountable and take scam artists to court. I will ensure that every New Yorker receives the fair shake they deserve.

That is my commitment to you.
